Jim Morris, Senior Consultant

Jim Morris is a Human Resources Management professional with nearly thirty years experience in the field. Following a brief career in Community Mental Health work in rural Texas, Jim began his work in corporate human resources. For ten years he led human resources teams in large technology and financial services companies. During that time, he developed an expertise in organization and talent assessments through his extensive work in mergers and acquisitions.

In 1991 Jim co-founded the MBL Group, LLC, a boutique human resources consulting firm based in Portland, Oregon. Over the next 18 years, MBL Group grew to be one of the most highly respected HR consulting firms in the region.  Jim’s consulting practice within MBL Group focused exclusively on mission driven social purpose organizations. While he considers himself a human resources generalist, Jim’s passion is talent acquisition, leadership development and succession planning.

Jim works with mission driven organizations in non-profit, public sector and the private sector. Jim’s commitment to sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility is deep and long standing. He talks the language of sustainability and understands how the triple bottom line carries with it broad implications for human resources management. Leading mission driven organizations takes a different breed of leader. Jim believes that a leader’s commitment to mission is often the greatest determinant of success or failure. His work focuses on finding leaders that not only possess the job specific competencies of their position and are committed to the mission. Assessing fit with an organizational mission is his passion and his expertise.

Jim holds a bachelor of science in Psychology from West Texas State University and completed his master’s coursework in Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University. He has been actively involved in the community through volunteer efforts with non-profit organizations. Jim served on the Board of Directors of Business for Social Responsibility Portland Chapter in the early 1990’s. He is past Chair of the Board of Basic Rights Oregon and co-founded Artichoke Community Music Foundation.
Jim and his partner Richard Colombo are the current stewards of Artichoke Music, a 40 year old folk music community that houses a store, school and concert venue. In addition, the Artichoke Community Music Foundation funds programs to get music into the schools and to underserved population. If Jim and Richard are not playing music, hosting music events or selling instruments, you will find them caring for and driving their vintage cars.
