JoeJoe Hertzberg, Principal
As a consultant in Oregon since 1979, Joe has specialized in strategic thinking and creative decision-making.  Formerly on the faculty of Yale University, he was also a vice president of O'Neill & Company, a consulting firm with offices in Seattle and Portland, and a principal in Sextant Consultants Inc.

Joe currently serves as a member of the Charter Review Commission for the City of Portland, charged with updating the 1913 Charter.  In 2003, he was interim director of Portland’s Bureau of Housing & Community Development, guiding the transition to its new strategic plan and leading the search for a permanent director.

He has graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Yale University, has taught in the MBA program at Marylhurst University, and has served on the boards of Friends of the Children, The Lowenstein Trust, and The Jewish Review.

Like his fellow boomers, Joe is intrigued to find himself moving through midlife: two children out in the world, two still at home, and a sports car announcing that he will never drive another car pool.  While hearing and memory have slipped, he claims to be skiing better than he ever has in his life. (Note, however, that Sonny Bono made the same claim.)

MarcMarc Smiley, Principal
Since 1988, Marc has had the privilege of consulting to more than 700 nonprofit organizations throughout the country, providing services addressing the broad spectrum of organizational development issues. As an organizational development consultant, Marc specializes in organizational assessment, strategic planning, organizational structure, and fundraising planning and implementation. He works predominantly with groups focused on land conservation, historic preservation, energy conservation, affordable housing, community forestry and environmental protection.

Marc currently serves as an adjunct Professor at Portland State University, teaching nonprofit management courses and workshops for the Institute for Management of Nonprofit Organizations. He is also a commissioner on the Land Trust Accreditation Commission.

Marc earned his Journalism degree from the University of Oregon in Eugene. He has served as executive director of the Energy Trust of Oregon and the Oregon Natural Resources Council. Marc is a key trainer for the Technical Assistance for Community Service (TACS) local and statewide training program. He has also served on the board and in leadership roles for several nonprofit groups, including a recent role as a board member and Major Gifts Committee Chair for the Columbia Land Trust.

Marc has been known to seek out the best golf courses in the country and can give the best local golf pros and his oldest son a run for their money on the links.

CarriCarri Munn, Associate
Carri has played key roles in growing businesses and nonprofit organizations, focusing on systems development, strategic human resources management, marketing, and project management.

Her experience includes three years at the Community Development Network providing support to Portland’s community development corporations, initial organization of the Portland Community Land Trust, and nearly a decade as acquisitions manager and marketing director for property management companies.

Carri received her masters degree in Nonprofit Management and Public Administration from Portland State University. She graduated cum laude from the University of Florida with a BA in Political Theory and a minor in Philosophy.  She has expertise in program evaluation, research and policy analysis, human resources management, online communications, and web development. Carri serves on the board of CNRG, the Community Nonprofit Resource Group.

Carri maintains a regular yoga practice that provides her the patience and energy to thoroughly enjoy mothering two preschool-age children. Aside from the constant flow of snacks, she can whip up a great dinner party for ten using the bounty of her urban garden. She enjoys middle-eastern dance, the ancient art of henna, and checking out the local music scene with her husband. Use caution while driving: this consultant commutes by bike.

DoriDori Rosenblum, Business Manager
Dori’s background is in financial systems, and business and property management. Prior to joining Decisions Decisions she was on the ten year plan: changing directions every ten years. Beginning in Social Services at a Parent Child Center she left that world to go into retail sales by opening a bookstore with two other women. After her son was born and she wanted home based work, she held a volunteer treasurer position for a non-profit organization. When she could no longer make excuses that she was staying home because of the kids she began her work as an independent contractor/consultant.

Hailing from New Jersey she believes she has lived in Oregon almost long enough (33 years) to consider herself an Oregonian. Well at least her 2 children can make that claim. She is a daily power walker and enjoys weekly yoga classes.

RachelRachel Fachner, Administrative Assistant
Rachel graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She has a broad range of organizational leadership and financial management experience. Rachel has worked as a development assistant for several non-profits both in Portland and in New York, and sits on the development committee of CNRG. As a project assistant she provides budget management, key scheduling assistance, report writing, and material production.

When away from the office, you can find Rachel tutoring ESL, writing grants for local nonprofits, volunteering for educational organizations, and making performances around community issues. Also, Rachel is an avid cyclist and hiker.
