Habitat for Humanity – Portland / Metro East
Merger brings greater capacity and efficiency to low-income housing
Habitat for Humanity is a popular international organization with four affiliates working in the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area to build houses with low-income families. Years of collaboration and a moment of opportunity led two affiliates to pursue a merger that would bring greater ability to provide homeownership opportunities for hardworking families of limited means. As is often the case, the destination was important, but so was the journey.
- Leaders from both organizations participated in task forces to explore the due diligence and critical fiduciary questions.
- Large meetings that included board and staff members from both organizations worked through tough questions and developed consensus on fundamental aspects of mission and structure.
- Strategic planning brought the ideas and strengths of two organizations into a single, unified plan that spoke with one voice.
