Los Angeles City Council
First retreat ever sets Council goals
The Los Angeles City Council had never met in a retreat before. They were used to meeting in a highly formal setting with lots of staff, lots of citizens, and lots of hubbub. It was very different for the 15 members to sit around a simple table with a facilitator.
- Generated a short-list of Council priorities and a strategy for working through them during the year.
- Addressed the Council’s role in LA’s relatively strong mayor form of government and agreed on some ways to strengthen process and staffing.
- Informally discussed gang violence and its impact on all parts of the city. Came to agreement on a unified direction.
- We have worked with many city councils and county commissions in Oregon, including the cities of Beaverton, Bend, Portland, Tigard, Tualatin, and West Linn and Clackamas, Lane, and Washington Counties.
